CELEBRATING SUMMER BIRTHDAY

Dear Parents,

We had a great last week of school.  We celebrated all the summer birthdays by making our own ice cream and then having an ice cream sundae party.   The children added sprinkles, skittles, chocolate, and whipped cream to their ice cream.  They loved eating it as well as making it. Happy Birthday to Delia, Justine, and Nathaniel.

After eating our ice cream, we talked about each child's favorite activity this year, and this is what they said:
~"I liked making the dog house," Delia
~"I liked the beach party," Nathaniel
~"I had fun making the aquarium," Ella
~"I liked playing with the Magna-Tiles," Ozi
~"I liked eating snack," Liaan
~"I liked painting the shells," Hattie
~"I loved the dance party," Iker
~"I liked building with the Magna-Tiles," Jack
~"I liked finger-painting the whales," Nina
~"I liked playing with all the toys," Justine
~"I liked making the beach ball," Catie
We ended the school year with a great concert, graduation, and outdoor picnic.  The children did an excellent job singing and playing instruments.  Thank you for contributing all the delicious food.  Everything was scrumptious!

I would have to say that this was the best year yet!  It has been amazing watching the children grow both socially and academically right in front of my eyes.

I would especially like to thank you for all your support throughout the year and for all contributions to the classroom such as:
Bringing in fruit each week; reading stories to the class; making Easter eggs, baking cookies; and donating coffee boxes and wipes. As the saying goes, "Great parents have great children," and that couldn't be any truer!

Love,

BEACH PARTY

Dear Parents,

We had so much this week preparing for our beach party.  We introduced our unit by reading The Rainbow Fish, The Ocean Alphabet Book, and Rainbow Fish to the Rescue. We then had a discussion about the different types of fish that live in the ocean such as dolphins, whales, sharks, crabs, lobsters, and turtles.

We finger-painted different kinds of whales and created a background for them by water-coloring waves and then adding birds and clouds to it. The children also made aquariums  by placing fish stickers outside a plastic container, and then added rocks, shells, glitter, frogs, and blue-colored water inside the container.  The results were spectacular!  The children has so much fun playing with it and watching the frog swim around inside of it.

We also made delicious edible aquariums for snack using blue Jello and gummy fish, mm... were they delicious!

The children enjoyed listening to the "Rainbow Fish" story so much that we decided to make our own rainbow fish.  Each child was given one shiny scale and an assortment of scales, glitter, and sequins which they then glued onto a fish template. We attached the fish to a net that hung across our classroom.  Please stop by to see our "Under the Sea" display.

We concluded our unit by having an incredible beach party.  The children looked so adorable in their beach attire.  Some of the activities included:  decorating beach balls and sailor hats.  The children also made binoculars decorated with fish stickers.  They used these to look for whales during our "whale watch."  I hid pictures of whales throughout our classroom while Barbara read them a fish story outside the classroom.  The children then came in with their binoculars and searched for the whales.  Once the children found a whale they sat on their beach towels and listened to stories about each of the whales they had found.

We ended our day by having a delicious lunch on our beach blankets.  Some of the foods we enjoyed eating were bagels and cream cheese, tuna and egg salad sandwiches, fruit, cookies, and ice cream.  Thank you to all the parents who donated the delicious food.
