December 21st Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We had a very productive week preparing for our holiday celebration.  We started off the week by reading several winter/holiday books such as: Robert Frost, Maybe My Baby, and Thomas's Delivery. 


The children painted and decorated Popsicle stick sleds as well as Popsicle stick stars and pompom ornaments.  The results were stunning!  Please stop by to see our festive display.

We concluded the week by having a wonderful song festival.  The children did a great job singing.  We also enjoyed sharing a special snack with our family and friends.

 

 

 

We wish you a fun-filled holiday season with your families.  We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, January 2nd.

December 13th Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We have been very busy preparing for the holidays.  Last week we learned about Krampus and Hanukkah.  This week we learned about Christmas and the importance of  spending time with our families and giving to others.  We talked about the traditional foods we eat during the holidays. We hope you enjoyed the gifts and the adorable snowmen cards the children created  for you. 

 

 

This week we practiced writing the letter "J."  The children came up with words that begin with the letter "J" such as:  Julia, jacket, juice, jobs, and jump. 

 

The children had a great time in music this week with Lisa and Christine.  The children learned so many new holiday songs.  Some of which they will be singing at our holiday party.  A few of the songs the children learned were "Jingle Bells," "I Have a Little Dreidel,"  and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."

We also celebrated Ozi's third birthday.  Thank you to his family for the delicious treats.  Happy Birthday Ozi!

 Notes:  Please send in snow pants with your child, to leave in their cubby, since we do go out to play in the snow.

 

 

 

 

Please send in the proper utensils and a beverage in your children's lunch box (lunch bunch children).

December 5th Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We had an exciting week learning about Hanukkah.  We talked about how important it is to give to others.  One of the ways the children experienced the job of giving was by making a gift for you.  They could hardly wait to give it to you.

 We continued our unit by decorating 3-D dreidels that are suspended from our classroom ceiling.  We also painted wooden dreidels with stands.  Please drop by and see our large dreidels that adorn our bulletin board.  The children decorated them with pompoms, stickers, glitter and sequins.

This week we also celebrated an Austrian holiday called Krampus.  Krampus is a holiday where the children of Austria put out their shoes and wait for either Krampus or St. Nicholas fill them up over night.  If they have been good all year they get gifts and treats but, if they did not behave, a mythical creature called Krampus comes and fills their shoes with rocks.  This children were all excited to learn about this and could not wait to put their shoes in the hallway.  After a short time, the children all went out to check their shoes.  Of course, they all received candy canes in their shoes.

 

One of the children's favorite part of the week was when we invited the Half Note Class in our room to help us make potato latkes (a traditional food eaten on Hanukkah). They loved eating them as well.  It was so much fun sharing the holiday with our classmates as well as our other friends. We also lit the Hanukkah candles and recited the Hanukkah blessings.

 

 

 

On Wednesday, we made dreidels with the Whole Note Class.  The children inserted a pretzel stick into a marshmallow and then added a Hershey kiss with frosting. They then added different color sprinkles.  The children had a great time making them with their friends, and eating them as well. We also said the blessings together and lit all eight candles, for the last night of  Hanukkah.

 

 

 






















We ended the week by listening to some Hanukkah stories and baking some holiday cookies for our holiday party.  Some of the Hanukkah stories we  listened to were: The Eight Nights, The Menorah Story, Hanukkah Lights,  Beni's First Chanukah, and Hanukkah.

THANKSGIVIING IS HERE!November 28, 2013 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We spent two fun-filled weeks preparing for our Thanksgiving celebration.  We hope you enjoyed all the items the children made for your Thanksgiving table.  Some of the projects included: Native American villages, turkey headbands, necklaces, place mats, drums, and turkey costumes.

We also had a great visit from Jean Holmblad, a Newton librarian.  Some of the stories she read to the children were:  Cock-A-Moo,Moo, Old MacDonald Had a Farm, and Thanks for Thanksgiving.

We hope you had a good time at our Thanksgiving celebration.  The children certainly had a great time! Your children did a great job at the concert.  I am sure you will all agree.  They looked absolutely adorable in their Turkey costumes.  We also had a great feast!  Thank you so much for all the food that you contributed to the feast.  Everything was absolutely the delicious.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.
