TRANSPORTATION UNIT

Dear Parents,
"We continued our transportation unit by making box cars and trucks.  The children painted cereal boxes, and added wheels and stickers. Then the children attached pictures of themselves so that it appeared that they were the drivers.  Then they enjoyed racing their cars on a race track.  The children now know that cars and trucks travel on land, planes travel in the sky, and boats travel in the w                                                                                   V

The children had so much fun in music this week singing, dancing, and playing the piano.  One of the children's favorite songs is Don Alfredo.

A dental hygienist came to visit the school on Wednesday to talk to the children about proper dental hygiene. She gave a demonstration using a stuffed animal with very big teeth and showed the children the proper way to brush and floss their teeth.   They did a very nice job sitting and listening to the hygienist  and some of the children even shared how they brush their teeth!

The children had a great time this week learning about Passover and Easter, and the traditions we share with our families. They
helped make fried matzoh (matzoh brie) by breaking the matzoh into small pieces, soaking it in water, adding eggs, and finally the teacher fried it up. The children loved eating it almost as much as making it. Mm mm, was it good!

They then made adorable matzoh men/women by placing a sheet of paper on the Lego table and rubbing a crayon back and forth over it.

We had such a great time with Beth, Delia's mother, decorating eggs.Thank you Beth for not only donating your time but for the great treats and decorations.  The children could not stop looking at their eggs for the rest of the afternoon.

We finished our holiday unit by making a crayon resist Easter egg pictures.

We celebrated Jack's fourth birthday this week. Thank you to his family for the special treats.  The children loved the cupcakes, as you can see.

Happy 3rd birthday Jack!

Mmm, was that good!

TRAVEL

Dear Parents,

This week we learned about different ways to travel such as on land, by sea, and in the sky.  The list of vehicles that the children came up with for land, were:  bicycles, cars, motorcycles, buses, and trucks. The vehicles that travel by water were boats and ships.  They children also said that, "You can fly in the sky in airplanes and helicopters."

The children then created airplanes by painting clothes pins and Popsicle sticks and then gluing them all together to make airplanes. After giving the children the materials to make the airplane and telling them to start painting they just stood there.  I finally asked them, "Why aren't you painting?  Their response was, "I am waiting for the airplanes to paint."  I told them that they were going to make the airplanes themselves with their painted sticks. The children were very excited when they finally realized that they could glue a few sticks together and create something that resembled an airplane.

The children had a great time in music this week.
They sang and danced to Don Alfredo.  The children practiced playing the Glockenspiel.  They also learned about steady beats and rhythms.

We later went on to discuss water travel.  The children  created adorable boats by painting a coffee sleeve, adding a coffee stirrers, stickers, and a sail.  They all  worked together to paint water and waves.  Please come by our classroom and look at the beautiful sea scene that your children have created.

We also had a surprise visit by the Newton librarian.  She read the children a few stories such as:

In the Rain, by Amy Hess, The Nest, by Jorey Hurley, and  Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons.

We also practiced writing our names and drawing our self-portraits. Wow, have we all grown!

Next week we look forward to traveling by land in our box cars.

Note:  We will be off from school for Passover (spring break) from Tuesday, April 15 - April 22nd.

Love,

Ms. Bonne and Ms. Barbara
